Learning Contract
Goals:
Objective 1: Create a brochure for victims of a felony crime introducing them as to how their case travels through the courts
Activities/Resources
· Apply my old law notes from school to current cases victims face
· Research the areas my notes missed
· Observe court room proceedings and conferences
· Ask my co-workers questions about terminology, and victims’ rights
Evidence
· Include final brochures that have been approved by my supervisor
Objective 2: Learn how to professionally communicate with victims of a felony crime over the phone.
Activities/Resources
· Research effective communication techniques
· Observe my supervisor during victim conferences and telephone conversations.
· Discuss with my supervisor which techniques work best and why
· Communicate with a victim over the phone with my supervisors guidance
Evidence
· Include research of effective communication techniques
· Include notes in regards to observations and discussions with my supervisor
· Include mock transcripts of me communicating with a victim.
Objective 3: Be able to provide the discovery (exchange of evidence) information to the defendant’s lawyer.
Activities/Resources
· Review old cases in which the evidence was summarized
· Create a relationship with our paralegal in order for her to mentor me with this process
· Have her create a mock case for me to summarize or summarize a real case with her present
Evidence
· Include mock practice samples of discovery answers with my mentor’s corrections
· Include the finalized versions of mock discovery answers
· Include notes I take in regards to old cases or conversations with my mentor
